For cs1101's second assignment, we were assigned to use six free web hosting sites, such as this one and write a review on it. The review will consist of many parts such as, internal html editor, the ability to access the site with a program such as Microsoft Homepage, the download speed of the website and registration process.
Scores out of 5 (with explainations below)
| Regestration | IDE Access | Shopping | Download Speed | Junk-Mail Recieved | Components added |
Total = 23/30
Regestration
The regestration process was easy enough, however there was a lot more fields to be filled in then I would have liked. In about 12 minutes was working on my site. They also wished for me to sign up for a lot of newsletters, this did not make me very confident in the site. Overall process didn't ask for any creditcard details and seemed alright loosing 2 points.
IDE Access
I was able to access my website and edit it through Microsoft Frontpage, so this scores 100%.
Shopping
Shopping is available from Tripod.com but you have to pay for the service. This is why it only scores 2.5 out of 5.
Download times
| Modem Speeds | 14.4k | 28.8k | 33.6k | 56k | 128 | |
The download times are reasonable. They could be smaller however, as the ads added to the site take most of the download time. Still on average most people will only have to wait 3 second for the site to load, Download times score 100%.
Junk-mail Recieved
I recieved no junk mail in the e-mail account I used for the regestration. This is very good as many "free" services often involve spam or spyware sent or installed.
Components added
The components added to the appearance of the site consist of ads at the top and bottem of the screen, as well as a pop up ad, which is quiet annoying. The pop up ad I have been getting is one which tells you to click on the ad to collect your prize, these are especially annoying.
